Kirkuk, which houses are archeological remains that over 5,000 years old,is a city that was built on a mound containing the remains of a settlement dating back to 3000 B.C.Producing almost half of Iraqi oil exports,Kirkuk is the center of Iraq's industry and is connected by pipelines to ports on theb Meditterenean sae,Making the city extremely important to the Iraqi state.Kirkuk stands on the site of the ancient Assyrian, which was once the battle grounds for the Assyrian, Babylonian, and Median empires that took turns controlling the City.Sights include the Citadel, the tomb of Prophet Daniel, Al Qaysareyah Market, and the archeological sites of Qal' at Jarmo and Yorgan Tepe.
